Article III, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution extends the judicial power of the federal courts to adjudicate expressly delineated “cases” and “controversies.” The doctrine of “standing” reflects this fundamental limitation, requiring federal courts to satisfy themselves that “the plaintiff has alleged such a personal stake in the outcome of the controversy as to warrant his invocation of federal court jurisdiction.” |
