Michael Melbinger, Winston & Strawn partner and chair of the executive compensation and employee benefits practice group, moderated a discussion titled "Developments in Executive Compensation" on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at The Chicago Club. The program was presented by the Chicago Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors.
The panel discussed the current state of executive compensation and the issues that compensation committees and boards will face: the real facts about compensation, how to define and measure pay-for-performance, how to establish performance targets; the effects of the new regulations (SEC Disclosure and Governance Requirements) on compensation and boards and the challenges compensation committees and boards need to address.
Panelists were Steven Kaplan, Neubauer Family Professor of Entrepreneurship and Finance at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business; Samuel Skinner, Of Counsel at Greenberg Traurig; and Matt Turner, Managing Director in the Chicago office of Pearl Meyer & Partners.
